This is our most popular type of meditation bench. The folding meditation bench is stable while in use, yet it conveniently folds so you can easily take it with you to your group meditation or meditation retreat. When the legs are folded it will easily slip into a backpack, suitcase or one of our beautiful bench bags. Heavy duty hinges connect the Alder hardwood legs to the birch plywood top. The folding bench has a layer of foam and a layer of cotton batting and is upholstered with either with cotton canvas or raw silk.

Left stack (silk): Forest Green, Indigo, Teal.

Middle stack (cotton): Sage, Natural, Golden Wheat, Chocolate, Burgundy.

Regular: 5" in front and 6 1/4" back. Tall: 6" front 7 1/4" back

Round Leg

Regular: 5 5/8" at the tallest point. Tall: 6 1/2" at the tallest point.

Leg Style - Angled vs. Rounded

The angled legs generally provide the meditator with greater support for the back to stay straight while staying relaxed. However, some customers prefer a rounded leg which lets the meditator use the bench at whatever tilt they choose. The rounded leg option is only available on the folding benches. You also have the option of ordering an extra set of legs in order to try which style works best for you. We have a number of customers that order both in order to switch back and forth from time to time.

Silk vs. Cotton

We generally recommend the cotton upholstery for its strength and durability. The beautiful raw silk upholstery gives the bench a softer, more "luxurious" feel. Silk has also been said to insulate the meditator from subtle energies from the Earth, helping the meditation stay focused and uplifted.

Folding vs. Standing

Generally our customers prefer the folding bench because of the convenience and portability it offers. The folding legs make it easy to slip the bench into a backpack and bring it to a group meditation or to simply tuck it into a closet when you're done meditating. While our folding meditation benches are stable and strong, some customers prefer our standing bench on which the legs don't move, adding an extra degree of stability.

I went back and forth between the angled and rounded legs before I ordered, and settled on the angled. I'm very pleased with the comfort and construction, as well as the ease of portability.

I have been using a bench for a few months now and wanted one I could easily take with me on retreats. This really fits the bill. It's sturdy and comfortable. I got the higher legs, which is more comfortable for me. I also purchased the rounded legs. Both are great. This is a well made bench which should last for a long time

This meditation bench is the first I've ever owned but by looking at it and trying it out, I can tell it was built to last.

I've been inspired to incorporate meditation into my daily routine after reading the Upanishads. The reason I bought this bench is I found it uncomfortable to sit on the floor even with the use of pillows. This bench solved all my comfort issues.

I ordered the tall version with rounded leg style and then added the optional bench leg carvings for a slight personal touch.

I would recommend this bench from Ananda Woodworking to anyone looking for a meditation bench made with great craftsmanship.

The shipping was very fast. The meditation bench was ordered on Tuesday morning and it arrived on my doorstep on Wednesday afternoon.

I am very pleased with this bench. The hinges, fabric, wood, and screws are made of quality materials. The woodworking is first rate, and there is a nice finish. The bench is not as heavy as it looks. I bought the larger version, as I stand 5' 11". I am not sure if it will fit in my soft briefcase or not. I will have to try that soon.

I'm a meditation teacher, so I've tried out lots of pillows and benches in my own meditations, and with students. My folding bench from meditationbench.com is the best! I ordered a tall, even though I'm not tall, because I'm not as flexible as I used to be and it seems more comfortable to me. I like the rounded legs because I can adjust my position subtly without disturbing those around me. The padding is wonderful! My legs don't fall asleep and my sit bones don't get tired. Thank you!

I love my bench! I was hesitant to replace my old, well-loved bench that didn't fold, but I was tired of lugging it to retreats. As soon as this bench arrived, though, I could tell it was going to be even better than my old one.

The craftmanship is extraordinary, and the folding legs are completely stable. The bench is even more comfortable than my old one! I orginally ordered the fixed legs and then switched them for rounded -- it was easy to do and it's great to have the option.

I am often asked about my bench at practice group or on retreat -- I just invite people to try it out and they see right away how great it is.

The customer service has been excellent too. I've emailed with questions and gotten prompt, helpful replies. The bench (and later the new legs) arrived really promptly too.

Can I please give 6 stars?

I ordered my bench yesterday. It arrived today. I did not expect such rapid service. The bench is all that you said, and I am well pleased with the workmanship and the fit. It should not be difficult to adjust to sitting on it, rather than on a chair. Thank you for a pleasant experience...and providing me with a means for improving my sitting.
