The Book That Sparked a Spiritual Revolution

A young yogi meets the most transcendent spiritual persons of his time, and shares their stories. In chapter after chapter, as in no other book, Autobiography of a Yogi illuminates what life is like for those who realize God.

This book, first published in 1946, helped launch, and continues to inspire, a spiritual revolution in the West. It has blessed the lives of millions of readers around the world. From Ram Dass to George Harrison to Steve Jobs, it has been a touchstone and a source of deep inspiration.

Philip Goldberg wrote in American Veda that, “Among the people I interviewed about their key spiritual influences, a high percentage named a book, and by far the book most often mentioned was Yogananda’s unique memoir. A distant second was Be Here Now by Ram Dass, and he mentioned the Autobiography.”

Paramhansa Yogananda

Paramhansa Yogananda (often spelled 'Paramahansa' Yogananda) was born on January 5, 1893 in Gorakhpur, India. He was the first yoga master of India to permanently live and teach in the West.

Yogananda's initial impact was truly impressive. But his lasting impact has been even greater. Yogananda's Autobiography of a Yogi, first published in 1946, helped launch a spiritual revolution throughout the world. His message was nonsectarian and universal.

Yogananda brought clarity to hundreds of thousands of people regarding the ancient teachings of India. These teachings include the path of Kriya Yoga, which Yogananda called the 'jet-airplane' route to God, consisting of ancient yoga techniques to hasten the spiritual evolution of the student.
